Trichology Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you?

I have a private room inside Sola Salon Suites in Hartland.

My suite is in the far back right corner of the building with Salon Blue on the door.

If unsure of where to go, you can wait right inside the front doors and I will meet you up front.

What is a Certified Trichologist?

A Trichologist is a hair and scalp specialist. We are educated in biological sciences and look at hair loss problems in a holistic way by considering factors such as: personal history, lifestyle, genetic factors and environmental conditions.

Not only do I have training and education in Trichology specifically, but I also have a Biology, Psychology, & Chemistry Bachelors degree from UW-Stevens Point.

In my previous career (veterinary medicine), I had a lot of experience listening and looking at the whole picture to come to a diagnosis.

Why do you need to know medications, supplements, and medical background?

There are a few reasons why I ask you about all of your medications, supplements and medical history.

A lot of medications can cause hair loss, but because it isn't seen as a deterrent from taking the medication, most doctors won't tell you unless you specifically ask. They can also cause specific nutrients to be deficient, which can affect the hair and scalp.

I like to know what supplements you are on so that I can see if there are any gaps in the vitamins and minerals your hair specifically needs.

Your medical history directly effects your hair. Surgeries can take a toll on hair for up to 2 years. Severe illnesses, life stressors, and going on and off medications can all cause major hair changes for up to 9 months.

Looking at all of these factors ensures I am looking at the whole picture and am not missing a piece that might be crucial in ensuring your results.

What if I have cancer and am going through treatment?

First, I am so sorry you are going through this and wish you all the healing vibes.

I am able to help your regrowth once you have an "all clear" from your Oncologist. Adding in supplements and topicals is not safe while using cancer medications.

If we are treating you after, all supplements and topicals should still be run past your doctors.

Can I continue to get color services during hair loss treatments?

Yes, you are still able to get professional color services during your treatments as long as the color or lightener isn't part of the issue.

I love my hairstylist, can I still see you?

Absolutely! Even though I do color and cuts for my clients I don't need to. As long as the color (particularly lightener) isn't part of the problem there is no reason to leave your current hairstylist. You can see me just for rechecks and treatments.

I already saw a Dermatologist, how are you different?

I want to remind you here, I do not have a medical degree and am not medically trained on the human side. I can work WITH your dermatologist. If you are looking to switch to more natural treatments, want more education on your diagnosis, or feel as though you are needing more help, I am here for you.

However, I do have extensive education on the hair, scalp, and how internal and external factors influence these. I cannot perform any biopsies, blood test, or hormonal test.

I look at your entire health, lifestyle, and genetic history and truly listen to your story. Using this information paired with microscopic pictures of your scalp and hair follicles, I can help you understand what is happening.

I cannot prescribe any medications, but I can help holistically via topicals, supplements, and lifestyle recommendations to solve hair and scalp problems.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance as I am not a licensed medical professional. I accept multiple forms of payment though: cash, Venmo, and all major credit cards.

Is my information private?

I use a booking and documentation system that is HIPAA compliant and used by many independent nurse injectors. All of your forms and pictures go directly to your profile and are only seen by me.

If you ever want to see your profile or my system, I am happy to show you.

How should I come to my appointment?

Please come to your appointment with clean hair (no more than 1 day dirty) and in its every day style. This allows me to get good pictures of your scalp and hair.

My hair has been thinning for years, can I still be treated?

The honest answer is possibly, and unfortunately I won't know until I hear your history and take a look under my microscope. It all depends on what stage you are on in your hair loss. There is usually a chance we can regrowth some of your hair and make sure the hair you do have is stronger and healthier.

However, if you are at later stages there may only be cosmetic solutions such as extensions, toppers, wigs, and scalp micro pigmentation
