Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

A non-invasive, low maintenance solution to hair loss/thinning, scars, alopecia, and even beards. It uses detailed micro-needles to mimic hair follicles with specially formulated cosmetic ink. Frequently Asked Questions

Treatment

How long does Scalp Micropigmentation last?

It is a form of permanent makeup and is sometimes called cosmetic hair. After the recommended treatments are performed it typically lasts 4-6 years. At this time there may be some slight fading which is when a quick touch-up can be done.

SMP can be tweaked as the years go on and some even prefer a touch-up every year or two to keep a more "fresh look", but this is not necessary.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone needs at least 2 sessions, but most will get a 3rd. Touch-ups are done 1-6 years after treatment. It varies per person and their preferences.

Can I keep my hair long?

In certain cases you can keep your hair at your desired length. If you have minimal thinning and we are just creating a density illusion, then you may keep longer hair.

However, in more severe thinning cases or depending on your hairline design you will need to keep your head shaved or at a short buzz cut length.

Can Scalp Micropigmentation camouflage my transplant scar?

SMP can camouflage scars. Depending on the severity, skin condition, and location I guarantee up to 70% concealment after 2+ sessions and healed.

Can I grow my hair back with SMP/will it cause scarring?

Does Scalp Micropigmentation hurt?

For most clients the pain is minimal and is much less painful than traditional tattoos. After the session there won't be any discomfort.

If you would like you can take Tylenol a couple hours before. Topical numbing creams are not typically used as they can alter the skin texture.

Does the Scalp Micropigmentation look realistic?

Once healed and all sessions are completed, it is extremely hard to see any differences between your natural follicles and the ink even 6 inches away.

When fresh, you can't tell from a distance, but the impressions may be slightly visible from up close.

Will it work with grey/white hair?

Yes, Scalp Micropigmentation can work with ANY hair color. I use a gradient of black and brown to match what your natural follicles look like.

What is the difference between Scalp Micropigmentation, a tattoo, and permanent makeup?

SMP is very different from a traditional tattoo. It is only put 1mm into the skin versus a traditional tattoo is put 5-8mm deep. It is considered a type of permanent cosmetics.

The machine, needles, and especially ink are specifically designed for fine impressions to mimic the hair follicles.

Scalp Micropigmentation will not cause scarring and the remaining hair you do have can grow in as normal. However, in cases of more advanced thinning, you will need to keep it very short so it will blend with the SMP.

In cases where we are just adding density, we don't need to cut the hair.

Consults are always free. A non-refundable deposit of $250 will be required to schedule your treatments, but will be applied to your total cost.

How do I choose a Scalp Micropigmentation artist?

This way you can make sure the area I clean and you are comfortable with the provider and space. Look at their portfolio for dynamic results. Do I need to prep my scalp?

In most cases you do not need to do anything prior to treatment. I am able to cut your hair to the length I need if necessary.

However, if during the consult or at treatment it is determined you have a scalp condition there may be some scalp prep needed between treatments or even before.

I have psoriasis/eczema/dermatitis, can I still get SMP?

In most cases you can still get Scalp Micropigmentation with these conditions. We just need to make sure you are not having a flare-up during the treatment. Because I also treat scalp conditions, I have many options to help prep your scalp before and after treatment to ensure the best outcomes.

Post-Treatment

Is there any downtime after treatment?

There is no downtime after any treatments. It is red, but you can wear a hat if necessary. Most clients feel comfortable seeing people next day or even same day.

Do I need to do anything special after treatment?

Post-treatment you do not touch it for 5 days: no shampooing, no excessive sweating, no lotions. For showers and mild sweating just pat dry with a towel.

After 5 days you can shower, workout and put lotion on your scalp. All products must be fragrance free.

Do I need to take off work/schedule around events?

Can I wear a hat after treatment?

You can wear a hat immediately after treatment if you choose. Just make sure it is clean as your scalp will be a bit irritated/inflamed from the treatment.

Will it change colors/fade like a traditional tattoo?

SMP uses a completely different ink and application than traditional tattoos. It will eventually fade and touch-ups will be necessary, but it should never fade blue or look like it is changing colors.

Can I continue to use topicals for hair growth after Scalp Micropigmentation?

You can continue topicals 30 days post final treatment. The scalp needs to be completely healed before continuing.

Most clients do not feel the need to take off work or adjust schedules. There is mild redness/irritation for the first 2-3 days, but hats and head coverings are allowed right after treatment.
